Artwork 4 (Shu Hui)
Ooi Shu Hui Photoshopped image 2010 This is the engagement photo of my maternal grandparents taken in around 1958, which I edited in photo-editing software Photoshop. The blissful couple has faint smiles playing on their lips as they look into the distance. Evidently, they come from an older era as displayed in their clothing and hairstyles. However, they still manage to come across as a pair of cool and confident lovers. The lady has short hair and is wearing a simple dress with prints. Her fiancé dons a smart suit paired with an olden printed tie and looks handsome. The dreamy background is made up of mostly warm colours- orange being the dominant colour- with the exception of a tinge of purple and pink towards the right, near the gentleman's left shoulder. One can spot a few faint images of cloud-like patterns mixed with the background. To enhance the dreamy lovey-dovey atmosphere, there is a grunge photo frame enclosing this beautiful shot of the couple which is tilted to the right. The pure and beautiful love this olden-day couple shares is now harder to find in our modernised and liberal society. In the past, marriage was for life, where they would stick together through thick and thin and overcome all challenges of life. Sad to say, such scenarios are not as common anymore and may continue to slowly dwindle away in the future. Has society and life become too complex? Where had the love gone? Will such pure love be only a thing of the past? Will it become legends, fairytales, myths, even things that we can only yearn to dream of? If then, I would want to have such a colourful dream...
